Jerome Jordan, Ronald Dupree and Ronald Murray have been cut, leaving the Memphis Grizzlies roster at 13 to enter the season.
While I never thought that Ronald Dupree and Flip Murray had a chance to make the roster due to the logjam at the wing position, I thought Jordan had showed almost enough to make the roster over center Hamed Haddadi, but it looks as if management has gone a different direction.
Now that the roster is set, the rotations based off preseason play will likely look like this:
PG: Mike Conley – Jerryd Bayless – Josh Selby
SG: Tony Allen – Wayne Ellington – Tony Wroten
SF: Rudy Gay – Quincy Pondexter
PF: Zach Randolph – Marreese Speights – *Darrell Arthur
C: Marc Gasol – Hamed Haddadi
When Arthur returns from his leg injury, expect he and Speights to eat up the backup minutes in the front court, making Haddadi the odd-man out.
Something else to look at will be how the minutes will be used for the younger players in Selby and Wroten. Based on preseason rotation, Wroten will have to prove that he can crack the rotation, while Selby will be spotted minutes based on whether he can provide spacing on the floor playing alongside the bigs.
With the preseason is finally over, the Grizzlies can move on to preparing for opening night on October 31 in a first-round rematch against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Barring injury, this roster is set; and with the core together and healthy, the sky is the limit.
