Another intriguing match-up this Tuesday as the Boston Celtics take on the Miami Heat in the season opener is the battle of the 6th men between Jason Terry and Ray Allen.  This will be the first game for both players with their new teams and it will be very interesting to see how both players adjust to their new situations.

Terry has been a 6th man almost all his career and I anticipate head coach Doc Rivers drawing up a few quick plays for him once he enters the game on Tuesday.  He can create his own shot if the offense breaks down and is also a willing passer, something that Allen was not during his tenure with the Celtics.  Terry will play a lot of minutes against the Heat and will also play some back-up point guard in relief of Rajon Rondo.  Allen never could offer that versatility.

Allen figures to see a lot of minutes as well on Tuesday.  One would also have to think Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra will look to get him involved early against his former team.  Allen figures to get a ton of open three point looks as the Celtics will have to account for Lebron James and Dwayne Wade’s penetration.  He will still have to come off screens, but he will be the beneficiary of a lot more stand up jump shots than he had in Boston.

Both players figure to see a ton of action Tuesday night and they both figure to play a prominent role in their team’s chances to win.  The Celtics will need to do a good job in making sure they limit Allen’s open shot attempts.
