!!!Gameday!!! Time for our gameday stats for the Raps as they will be the Nets first opponent in their new Brooklyn digs. The Nets were set to host the New York Knicks this past Thursday, but Hurricane Sandy has that region turned upside down so that game was postponed leaving the Raps as the first team to experience Brooklyn as a visiting team.
This is the Atlantic Division opener for each team.
This game is the debut of the new guard-combo for the Nets. Deron Williams and Joe Johnson have each been fantastic in their careers vs the Raps. They combine to average 38.5 points and 13.1 assists vs the T-Dot.
Former Rap Kris Humphries averages 9 points and 9.5 rebounds vs Toronto.
Brook Lopez averages 19 points and 8 rebounds in his 12 games vs the Raps (all 12 games were starts).
Since the Raptors last made the playoffs in the 2007-08 season they have won 4 out of every 10 road games (46-110)…In that same time the Raps are 29-34 vs the Atlantic division (10-6 vs the Nets).
In the 2006-07 season the Nets eliminated the Raptors in the opening round of the playoffs. That was the Nets last time in the playoffs.
In each of the past 2 seasons the Raps and Nets have been 2nd last, and last, in the Atlantic.
Kyle Lowry averages 10 points and 5.5 assists vs the Nets. I would anticipate those numbers being doubled by Lowry in this game.
DeMar DeRozan had a poor game in the season opener. He inked his extension just prior to taking the court. James Harden celebrated his extension with 37 points and 12 assists in a win, DD was significantly worse in a loss. In his career DD is 1 for 9 from downtown vs the Nets. He is good inside the arc though as he shoots 49% vs the Nets and averages 16.8 points vs them.
Andrea Bargnani averages 15 points per game vs the Nets, and he has made 30 of his 75 career 3-balls vs them.
Landry Fields was terrible in his Raps debut. He scored as many points as you or I did, which is to say zero. Unacceptable considering he played 24 minutes (same amount of time as Jose Calderon who had 15 points…same amount as Jonas Valanciunas who had a double-double).
Fields was not the only Rap putting up goose eggs in the season opening loss to the Indiana Pacers. Alan Anderson, John Lucas III, and Terrence Ross played a combined 30 minutes and had a total of zero points.
Game 1 was a win that the Raps turned into a loss. Here is hoping for much better results in this game.
