NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers Looking At Mike D'Antoni As Next Head Coach?

The Los Angeles Lakers have already fired Mike Brown, so the NBA rumors about a replacement are starting to pick up. One name that keeps popping up is Mike D’Antoni. That should scare the crap out of Lakers fans.

The team is struggling to play defense right now.  You can complain about the offense all you want but the defense is the real negative right now.  Dwight Howard is still feeling the effects of his back injury and it is hurting the defense as a whole.  Bringing in a guy who has never coached good defense in his life is not going to help matters.

If this ends up being the choice, I expect a lot of angry Lakers fans.  They want some real top names, and D’Antoni is not that.  He is a solid coach but he does not fit this roster.  The team can not run up and down the court.  That basically negates any effect that he could have on the team.  This just does not make a lot of sense on the surface, unless I am missing something.

Expect rumors about this job to keep flying until they find a permanent replacement.  I would wager that this would be the least popular hire they could go for.  However, I could be wrong and he might just be the right guy for the job.
