Phil Jackson Is Open To NBA Coaching Return
Phil Jackson is apparently open to returning to the NBA. Uh-oh. And this comes out on the same day that Mike Brown was canned by the Los Angeles Lakers after a 1-4 start to the regular season. That of course followed a win-less preseason.
Let the circus begin.
According to GM Mitch Kupchak the team has already put together a list of “4 or 5” names and Jackson is apparently on that list. Jackson had not been contacted by the team as of Friday afternoon, however.
The all-time winningest head coach in NBA championship history already has 11 titles to his name, and has not coached since the end of the 2010-11 season.
Jackson has kept his pulse on the NBA though.
“He’s been in tune with the Lakers’ season and has kept an eye on the league,” a source close to Jackson told ESPNLosAngeles.com.
The hiring process will apparently be an accelerated one, which could add even more to the speculation that the Zenmaster will return to LA to go after championship number 12.
“It’s not going to be a long process; that’s for damn sure,” a source told ESPNLosAngeles.com. “But they’re going to do their due diligence.”
Added Kupchak: “The sooner the better. We don’t have a timetable, quite frankly, because this happened so quickly.”
I’ll be honest. I’ve missed Phil Jackson ever since he retired, and even though things sure do happen quickly in the NBA, let’s see if the Zenmaster wants to slow things down for a sec.
