It’s safe to assume that most NBA fans thought the legendary Phil Jackson was set to return to the Lakers, especially after the team was in deep talks with the Hall of Fame coach earlier this week. However, as you can read from the previous tweet, the Lakers decided to move in a different direction.

It will be interesting to see if a) D’Antoni can handle the team a little better than Mike Brown did and b) if the players can handle D’Antoni’s run and gun type offense. Whenever Steve Nash does return from injury, however, I’m sure he will be glad to have his old coach back, considering he won two MVPs under D’Antoni’s system.

But the Lakers are a veteran club. A lot of their players have wear and tear on their bodies. If this was like 2004, then sure, this would probably end up smelling like roses. But I really cannot see how this Lakers team can keep it all season, especially when their defense is shaky right now.

I guess time will tell. Good luck, Mike.
