According to several sources who are familiar with the situation, former NBA All-Star Michael Finley is making an attempt at a comeback to the league.

The 39-year old Finley last competed in the Association during the 2009-10 season in 25 games for the San Antonio Spurs as well as an additional 21 games with the Boston Celtics.

The sources also said that Finley participated in NBA level pickup games all summer long and since then has continued to train extensively in hopes that a team will offer him a contract this season. Finley had been focusing on a career in an NBA front office however the two-time all-star has decided to place that goal on hold briefly in attempts to make one last run on the hardwood.

Finley is currently a special assistant to the Dallas Mavericks general manager Donnie Nelson along with another former Maverick Eduardo Najera.

The sources also stated that Finley has been inspired by the recent comeback made by Rasheed Wallace for the New York Knicks as well as the fact that Jerry Stackhouse is playing for the Brooklyn Nets and that Antonio McDyess is also attempting a comeback as well. All four of those players entered the NBA within the same two-season time frame. Finley entertained the idea of making a comeback to the D-League last season but ultimately decided against it.

Throughout Finley’s 15-year career, the veteran swingman averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest while competing in 1103 total games starting in 875 of them and won his sole in NBA Championship in 2007 while playing in San Antonio.
