Can The Dallas Mavericks Put The L.A. Lakers In A Hole?
Also, the Mavericks could avoid going back to an even .500 for a fifth time this year. In the past few weeks they have yet to go two games above .500. However, they have not been below it since they have found ways to win to avoid the below .500 mark.
This will be the second time that these two have met. The first time was the first game of the NBA season and everything went the Mavericks way winning 99-91.
However, tonight’s game may be a little different from the last. This will be the first meeting with Mike D’Antoni on the Lakers’ sideline.
If the Mavericks played like they did against the New York Knicks on Wednesday then this game will probably go the Lakers way. Despite the win against New York, the Mavs played horrible in the first two and half quarters. The only reason why they won that game was because of the second half comeback they had to pull off.
If they want to beat this Lakers team they are going to need to not turn the ball over in crucial moments. In the past week they have had careless passes which caused turnovers. If the Mavs turnover the ball against this Lakers team they are diffidently going to make Dallas pay.
Although, the Lakers will be without both Steve Nash and Steve Blake it could help the Mavs in their favor. Pau Gasol has had a terrible past two games. He has scored no more than 8 points in their two game losing streak. If the Mavs can keep him in his little funk then the Mavs could walk away with a victory.
Of course O.J. Mayo will need to be on a scoring rampage like he was last game for the Mavs to have a shot. He scored 27 points and was 5-10 from the three point field. If he does that tonight then expect the Mavs to win this last of their 3 game home stand.
Last game was the first game that Elton Brand came off from the bench instead of being in the starting line-up. From my point of view, he played his best game this season coming from the bench. If he is having the same role tonight then it could work out in the favor of the Mavs.
Also, if Dallas does win tonight it will be a great momentum shift in their season. After tonight they are looking at eight of their next ten games on the road.
