NBA Power Rankings: Week 3
2012-13 NBA Power Rankings: WEEK 3
Speaking of the Grizzlies, who would have thought that they would be in first place in the entire NBA this early? Well, they are. They have proved themselves this month that they have the talent to compete with the big boys in the league. They have already beaten the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Heat. Although, the 2012-13 season is still young, this Grizzlies team are for real.
On the opposite end of the standings you have the Washington Wizards who have yet to win a game this year. They are 0-12 and could they actually be a whole lot worse than last year's Charlotte Bobcats?
The Wizards have had tons of injury that has caused the to start the season so poor, but falling 0-12 to begin the season it may be hard to come back for a post-season run. They may need to start looking towards the off-season.
On a positive note, Kevin Love returned to the Minnesota Timberwolves who have falling to 5-7 after a 4-1 start. Hopefully Love will get into his groove and make the Timberwolves a playoff contender once again.
A lot of surprises thus far this season and it's only November. There is still tons of basketball that needs to be played and there are a lot of changes that will probably happen throughout this NBA season. Who knows? The Grizzlies and Knicks could fall off from the top of the standings and the Lakers could be a dominate powerhouse once again. Here are week three of this season's power rankings.
CHECK OUT THE LAST WEEKS' RANKINGS TO COMPARE THEM TO THIS WEEKS
#29 Toronto Raptors 3-11
At least they are not in last place, but a four game losing streak has put them in a early hole to start this season.
LAST WEEK RANK #26
#28 Detroit Pistons 4-11
Before the season I did mention that they were going through a rebuilding phase. It has really shown early on and will be like this for awhile too.
LAST WEEK RANK #29
#27 Cleveland Cavaliers 3-11
A tough lost to Miami this past weekend and a tough three game road trip losing all three. A quick home game tonight before heading back to the road doesn't help much either.
LAST WEEK RANK #28
#24 Phoenix Suns 6-8
A lost Sunday on the road to the Philadelphia 76ers is just a start to this six game road trip. However, they do play Cleveland, Detroit and Toronto.
LAST WEEK RANK #22
#23 Portland Trail Blazers 6-8
The Blazers are 0-2 so far on their seven game road trip. I had them in last place in the West before the season started and their schedule may help me with that prediction.
LAST WEEK RANK #18
#22 Orlando Magic 5-8
They have done pretty well for themselves without Dwight Howard. They do have a tough schedule looking forward. After hosting the Spurs and Nets they head off for a five game road trip.
LAST WEEK RANK #25
#21 Indiana Pacers 6-8
I will tell you one thing about this Indiana Pacers team. That is that this is not the same playoff contending team from last year.
LAST WEEK RANK #21
#20 Denver Nuggets 8-7
Although, the Denver Nuggets are 8-7, they just have not impressed me to move them any higher from #20. It may go even lower than that in a few weeks.
LAST WEEK RANK #20
#19 Minnesota Timberwolves 5-7
It's been a rough few weeks for this young T'Wolves team. Losing five straight, but with the return of Kevin Love it may turn around, going forward.
LAST WEEK RANK #12
#18 Charlotte Bobcats 7-6
If the playoffs started today the Bobcats would be the eighth seed. They have been pretty impressive, even with that embarrassing defeat to the Thunder Monday night.
LAST WEEK RANK #24
#17 Houston Rockets 6-7
Very impressive win against the Knicks this past Friday. Maybe James Harden is the answer to their future, but I still think that Jeremy Lin is going to hold them back.
LAST WEEK RANK #17
#16 Dallas Mavericks 7-7
A very embarrassing demolished by the hands of the Lakers. The Dallas Mavericks have yet to fall under .500 this year, but it may happen against a very tough Philadelphia team Tuesday night.
LAST WEEK RANK #13
#15 Utah Jazz 8-7
The Utah Jazz have won four of their last five games. Depending on how they finish their upcoming three game road trip it could tell whether or not the Jazz are a legit team.
LAST WEEK RANK #16
#14 Golden State Warriors 8-6
An easy stretch for the Golden State Warriors. They won their first game of their four game home stand and they do not play again until Thursday night.
LAST WEEK RANK #15
#13 Chicago Bulls 6-7
Losing their last four of five games has really shown that they really do miss Derrick Rose.
LAST WEEK RANK #11
#12 Boston Celtics 8-6
The Boston Celtics are starting the season as I thought they would. Struggling real early, but I believe they will catch fire soon.
LAST WEEK RANK #14
#11 Atlanta Hawks 8-4
The Hawks are on fire at the moment. They are on a five game winning streak and that streak may continue. They face the Bobcats and the Cavaliers this week. A very impressive run by Atlanta.
LAST WEEK RANK #19
#10 Milwaukee Bucks 7-5
A win at Chicago prevented them from falling far in the rankings, but losing three straight before that does not look good, moving forward.
LAST WEEK RANK #7
#9 Philadelphia 76ers 8-6
Even without Andrew Bynum, who has now been listed out indefinitely, the Sixers still look like a playoff contending team. This team may be very dominant when Bynum does come back from his injuries.
LAST WEEK RANK #9
#8 Los Angeles Clippers 8-6
During the Los Angeles Clippers four game losing streak they have been playing like, well the Clippers. They look like what this franchise is known for and that is a joke in the NBA. They are going to need to turn that around soon before they fall fast in the standings out West.
LAST WEEK RANK #6
#7 Los Angeles Lakers 7-7
A dominating win in Dallas moved them up. They still have ways to go before proving they are that powerhouse team they have always been.
LAST WEEK RANK #8
#6 New York Knicks 9-4
With the Knicks losing their last three of four games the talks about them winning 70 plus games will stop. Then again, they are New Yorkers.
LAST WEEK RANK #2
#5 Brooklyn Nets 9-4
A win in overtime to the Knicks may have shown who's the best team in New York. Lets see if they can keep that up with a three game road trip starting Wednesday night in Boston.
LAST WEEK RANK #10
#4 Oklahoma City Thunder 11-4
The 40 point halftime lead over the Bobcats Monday night was a site to see. Although they are the defending Western Champions and are 11-4, it seems like they are still the quite team that nobody talks about.
LAST WEEK RANK #4
#3 Miami Heat 10-3
Everyone shall see if the Heat is the dominate team in this early season. They face the Spurs and Nets at home this week. If they win both of them they could move up a notch in next week's rankings.
LAST WEEK RANK #5
#2 San Antonio Spurs 12-3
The Spurs are 4-0 on this six game road trip. However, those wins were against the Pacers, Raptors and Wizards. They face the Magic and Heat next. Orlando may be an easy win, but Thursday game against Miami could be a NBA Finals preview.
LAST WEEK RANK #3
#1 Memphis Grizzlies 10-2
The Grizzlies are on top of the NBA world. They are in first place in both West and East and look to stay that way for awhile. They go up against the Raptors and Pistons. Will Memphis fans finally see post-season success this year? It is sure looking like it thus far in this early NBA season.
