2012-13 NBA Power Rankings: WEEK 4

Power Rankings
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

What a interesting November in the NBA. With the league in it's second month of the season a few teams have stand out that nobody expected.

The Memphis Grizzlies are in first place in the league. Who would have guessed that? Other than Grizzlies fans. They seem like they are unstoppable and look to be a legit threat this post-season.

How about the Los Angeles Lakers? They fire their head coach, Mike Brown, just five games into the season. They hire Mike D'Antoni instead of Phil Jackson and fans wonder what the heck were they thinking?

It is still early on in the season, but D'Antoni's Lakers are just 3-4 since his debut with the team. The Lakers have always been a team that everybody feared, but right now it does not seem that way. Might be a long roller coaster ride for the Lakers.

Then there are the two teams in New York. Both the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks seem to be on top of the NBA with their excellent play. New Yorkers have something to be excited about with two teams looking to make a run to a long post-season run.

Entering the fourth week in this season's power rankings there have been lots of ups and downs for a few teams, thus far. Teams like the Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics and the Lakers have yet to find their identity for this year. That is why they keep jumping up and down in the rankings.

It seems like it's going to be like that for awhile until Christmas, at least. With that said, here is week four of this year's power rankings.

#30 Washington Wizards 1-13

Wizards
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

One lone win for the poor Washington Wizards. At least they got a win under their belt, but with that lone win they still look like that they will be the worse team in NBA history.

LAST WEEK RANK #30
3 of 31

#29 Toronto Raptors 4-13

Raptors
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

A nice win over the Phoenix Suns right before heading off on a little road trip. The Toronto Raptors play five games on the road starting Monday night. At least they aren't as bad as Washington.

LAST WEEK RANK #29
4 of 31

#28 Cleveland Cavaliers 4-13

Cavs
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

How bad are these Cleveland Cavaliers? Very bad. They are on the path to their worse season since LeBron James left.

LAST WEEK RANK #27
5 of 31

#27 Sacramento Kings 4-12

Kings
Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Standing dead last in the Western Conference. It seems like the Sacramento Kings are just stuck at the bottom of the standings.

LAST WEEK RANK #26
6 of 31

#26 New Orleans Hornets 4-11

Hornets
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Out of the 15 games that has been played Anthony Davis has missed nine of them, due to injuries. Despite being a rookie with limited playing experience the New Orleans Hornets need him back ASAP.

LAST WEEK RANK #25
7 of 31

#25 Detroit Pistons 5-13

Pistons
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

This Detroit Pistons team is good, but cannot finish games. That is why they are 5-13, but nothing much is expected from this team during a rebuilding year.

LAST WEEK RANK #28
8 of 31

#24 Portland Trail Blazers 7-10

Blazers
David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

I wonder how they actually feel given Washington their first win of the year? Oh well, at least they ended their four game losing streak in Cleveland, Saturday night.

LAST WEEK RANK#23
9 of 31

#23 Phoenix Suns 7-11

Suns
Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Sunshave lost four of their last five games. With games against the Grizzlies, Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers coming up it may be awhile before they win their eighth game of the season.

LAST WEEK RANK #24
10 of 31

#22 Orlando Magic 6-10

Magic
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Fans of the Orlando Magic must be celebrating right now after beating their former so called superstar, Dwight Howard, by 10 points. These two do not meet again until March 12th and this time it will be in Orlando.

LAST WEEK RANK #22
11 of 31

#21 Denver Nuggets 8-9

Nuggets
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets have lost their last three games after winning four straight. It does not look good going forward. After a home game on Monday they face a five game road trip.

LAST WEEK RANK #20
12 of 31

#20 Indiana Pacers 8-9

Pacers
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The Indiana Pacers rank #1 in the league in rebounds, but still find themselves under .500. Might be because they rank 29th in points per game.

LAST WEEK RANK #21
13 of 31

#19 Minnesota Timberwolves 7-8

Wolves
Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Since the return of Kevin Love the Minnesota Timberwolves are 2-4. Love has been averaging 21.7 points per game since his return, but it might be because their next scorer is Nikola Pekovic scoring 14.8 points per game. That's not going to work if the Wolves are wanting to improve their team from last year.

LAST WEEK RANK #19
14 of 31

#18 Charlotte Bobcats 7-8

Bobcats
Paul Abell-USA TODAY Sports

Stuck at seven wins right now which is the exact amount of wins they had last year. At least they will have a better record than last year because I highly doubt they will lose their next 67 games.

LAST WEEK RANK #18
15 of 31

#17 Dallas Mavericks 8-9

Mavs
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Bringing in Derek Fisher may help the Mavs turn the team around. They are going to need something since they are looking at a three game road trip starting with the Clippers.

LAST WEEK RANK #17
16 of 31

#16 Houston Rockets

Rockets
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Rockets are on a nice run right now. They have won their last four of five games and may be on a path of something great in Houston. However, a test will come in the coming weeks as they face the Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Mavs and then Spurs again.

LAST WEEK RANK #17
17 of 31

#15 Utah Jazz 9-9

Jazz
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

A really tough road trip the Utah Jazz had going 1-2. At least a three game home stand will be a little relaxing, even though, they face the Clippers to start it.

LAST WEEK RANK #15
18 of 31

#14 Boston Celtics 9-8

Celtics
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Celtics have not yet found themselves yet. I mean, look at them. They are in fourth place in their division. They need to find something quick before they fall into a deep hole.

LAST WEEK RANK #12
19 of 31

#13 Los Angeles Lakers 8-9

Lakers
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Maybe nerves held Howard back from beating his former team. Nevertheless, the Lakers are look really confused right now and D'Antoni may need to hurry up and win some games before falling into a hole. Even though, they are the Lakers they are still in the West and they do not want to fall behind too far.

LAST WEEK RANK #7
20 of 31

#12 Chicago Bulls 8-7

Bulls
Mike DiNovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Bulls are doing a nice job staying on top of the division. Still lots of games to be played without Derrick Rose.

LAST WEEK RANK #13
21 of 31

#11 Milwaukee Bucks 8-7

Bucks
Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

A nice win over the Celtics on Saturday. These Milwaukee Bucks are not a great team or even a good team. However, they are a decent team that can get them a nice post-season ride later this season.

LAST WEEK RANK #10
22 of 31

#10 Atlanta Hawks 9-5

Hawks
Paul Abell-USA TODAY Sports

There is not much talk about the Atlanta Hawks right now, but they have been playing really well. They had a six game winning streak going on before losing Friday night to Cleveland.

LAST WEEK RANK #11
23 of 31

#9 Philadelphia 76ers 10-7

Sixers
Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

Andrew Bynum is aiming for a Christmas return. With the Philadelphia 76ers in a good position right now, who knows how it will be when he makes his debut with the team.

LAST WEEK RANK #9
24 of 31

#8 Golden State Warriors 10-6

Warriors
Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong about this Golden State Warriors team. Could they actually give the Lakers and Clippers a fight for the Pacific Division title? As of right now they are in first place in the division and looks promising for Warriors fans.

LAST WEEK RANK #14
25 of 31

#7 Los Angeles Clippers 10-6

Clippers
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Clippers took care of business at home winning both of their games. Just a quick trip to Utah before heading back home for three more. I still like this team and I still have high hopes for them. It's only December though, and anything can happen.

LAST WEEK RANK #8
26 of 31

#6 Brooklyn Nets 11-5

Nets
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

A lost to the defending NBA Champions showed them that the Miami Heat are still the team to beat. Now lets see how this Nets team does against the defending Western Champions, Oklahoma City Thunder.

LAST WEEK RANK #5
27 of 31

#5 New York Knicks 12-4

Knicks
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The Knicks have won four of their last five games. They seem like a very dangerous threat to win it all, but it's only December. At least New Yorkers can be happy with the success they are having now.

LAST WEEK RANK #6
28 of 31

#4 Oklahoma City Thunder 14-4

Thunder
Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The Thunder are playing excellent basketball right now and that is without James Harden. Their current five game winning streak could continue. After a game in Brooklyn, Tuesday night, they will be at home for their next five games.

LAST WEEK RANK #4
29 of 31

#3 San Antonio Spurs 14-4

Spurs
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The NBA Fined the Spurs $250,000 for resting their guys. I guess when a teams puts their excellent coaching skills together it's against the law in the NBA.

LAST WEEK RANK #2
30 of 31

#2 Memphis Grizzlies 12-3

Grizzlies
Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

A tough lost to the Spurs in overtime, Saturday night. They are still at the top of the Southwest Division, and they seem to be a very legit team in the Western Conference.

LAST WEEK RANK #1
31 of 31

#1 Miami Heat 12-3

Heat
Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Currently on a six game winning steak the Heat look to add on to it. After a quick trip to Washington, Tuesday, they look at a six game home stand.
