Pau Gasol lately has been struggling with Mike D’Antoni’s fast paced style, but will miss the Houton Rockets game due to injury.
Gasol has been suffering with tendinitis in both knees and hopefully for the Spaniard is the reason that he has not been performing as of late.
The power forward is being replaced by Antawn Jamison tonight, who is a player that D’Antoni wants to use more down the stretch.
Gasol is just averaging 12.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.2 blocks per game and, after recently being called out by Kobe Bryant, this could be a disastrous time for the Spaniard to miss.
The departure of Gasol means the likes of Chris Duhon and Jordan Hill are going to extended minutes in the first team which can only be a good thing for the Los Angeles Lakers.
D’Antoni likes to play an up tempo offense that encourages quick shots and transition baskets, which for a less mobile Gasol is not the most perfect system.
What is the answer to this problem? Maybe D’Antoni could switch his system that would include Gasol to play in a role more suitable for the seven-foot power forward. It can all change once again in what has been a very unpredictable season for the Lakers, with Steve Nash’s much anticipated return happens it could get the rest of the roster firing hot once again. The other option is a trade which has been so heavily talked about happen.
Gasol is still owed $19 million for the rest of the season which is not such a big fee to pay off for an under-performing player.
