Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, Metta World Peace, and Antawn Jamison. No these aren’t names from the All Star ballot, they’re names from the Los Angeles Lakers roster. Talented right?
Yet, they’re 9-13 on the season. Let me break that down for some of you; out of 22 games played the Lakers with players like Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard have only won 9 games.
Some say it’s because they don’t have Steve Nash; others say it’s because they are learning a new system. Then there are those who have come right out and said that they’re old, and don’t play defense.
But unlike everyone else I’m not here to make excuses for the Lakers. The bottom line is with the roster they have they should not be 9-13. No way. No how.
Kobe and Dwight alone should be able to get them past teams. If that wasn’t enough they also gave Pau Gasol. According to my calculations that makes two 7 footers, and you’re not dominating teams in the post? When the Lakers had Andrew Bynum along with Gasol, the duo use to dominate teams due to the fact that other teams couldn’t contend with the Lakers’ size. But now you have Howard who is suppose to be better than Bynum right? So why aren’t they dominating?
Everyone will answer that question with two simple words, Mike D’Antoni. His style doesn’t fit the Lakers, with their age, and personnel. Blah. Blah. Blah.
I don’t want to hear it. I agree if D’Antoni wants to keep his job he will eventually have to cave and change his run and gun style but until then the Lakers have to stop whining and just play ball. Yes D’Antoni draws up the x’s and o’s but it’s ultimately up to the players to perform. I know what you’re thinking…
“But The Lakers don’t play defense.”
Well defense is partly based on effort so what’s that tell you? It tells me the players aren’t doing their part. They aren’t giving their all. I’m sick of it. It’s not heart surgery its basketball. I’ve seen guys in pick up games play with more fire than the Lakers. You have the size so utilize it, so feed the post. Give the effort, play with purpose and pride. Oh, and while you’re at it stop passing the buck.
The blame game stops here.
