2012-13 NBA Power Rankings: WEEK 6

NBA Power Rankings
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

When something gets us down we turn to sports to relieve some of that pain. No matter what it may be something that is treasured as sports fans will usually cheer anybody up.

Like back in 2001 when America was attacked and the World Trade Centers in New York fell to the ground. Thousands of lives were lost and people look for ways to honor those victims.

What happened this past Friday in Newtown, Connecticut, was by far one of the worse tragedy in American history since 9/11, no question about it. When it comes against the very young it is hard to get past it.

However, this is America and a country fill with sports. One way to honor the memory of every lost soul is by playing or watching the game. Every fan knows that each player that has gone on that court this past weekend were honoring each victim in someway.

A lot of players around the league this weekend wrote on their shoes in memory of the lives that were lost. Each arena holding a moment for silent and prayer for the victims and their family before tip-off.

The NBA has always been great when it comes to a national tragedy and they have done a great job in remembering all the victims. With that said, I apologize for not recapping last week in this power ranking introduction.

Well, it looks like the Charlotte Bobcats are just going to be stuck at seven wins for awhile. They were 7-5 to start the season. They have lost 11 straight games and may be awhile before they get more wins then they did last year. They face a four game road trip starting Tuesday.

Pistons
Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

A tough lost to the Brooklyn Nets in overtime, Friday night. At least Greg Monroe is looking promising, thus far. He is averaging 15.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. A great person to build a franchise around.

John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

Nice wins against the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets for the Toronto Raptors. They may be on a role right now, but then again they were up against bad teams like they are right now.

#19 Houston Rockets 11-12

Rockets
John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

Celtics
Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics are still trying to find their identity. I believe that they are way better than their record shows, but then again maybe Ray Allen was a big part of their success and when he left so did some of those wins.

22 of 31

#10 Brooklyn Nets 13-10

Nets
Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

Right now, the Nets are where I thought they would be. They are fifth in the East and look just like an average team. They are still not good enough to compete for anything.

#8 Atlanta Hawks 14-7

Hawks
Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

It's funny how the Atlanta Hawks have a better record than the Nets. The team that Joe Johnson left for. I say a great move by letting him go this past off-season.

#7 Golden State Warriors 16-8

#5 Miami Heat 15-6

Heat
Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

There was no way that the Heat would lose twice to the Wizards. They showed that by blowing them out. Right now, they are a second place team out East, but that blow out win may be the game that gets them rolling again.

LAST WEEK RANK #5
28 of 31

#4 Los Angeles Clippers 17-6

Clippers
Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

Look who has a nine game winning streak going on right now. That's right, the Clippers are looking like a Championship contending team right now. It is early in the season, but it looks like that they do not have to worry about the Lakers competing for the division title this year.

LAST WEEK RANK #6
29 of 31

#3 New York Knicks 18-5

Knicks
Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

The Knicks have won four straight and nine of their last ten games. They seem to be one of the best teams in the NBA and they are for sure the best team in New York. Sorry, Brooklyn

LAST WEEK RANK #3
30 of 31

#2 San Antonio Spurs 19-6

Spurs
Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

That back-to-back “L's” last week will go unnoticed. They are still one of the best teams in the NBA. Remember, after Christmas is when they usually start catching fire. Lets see how it goes now since they are playing like champions this early in the season.

LAST WEEK RANK #2
31 of 31

#1 Oklahoma City Thunder 19-4

Thunder
Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It is starting to look like that Oklahoma City is right where they were at the end of last season. Right now they seem unstoppable and a ten game winning streak shows that. Monday's night game, against San Antonio, may be a preview of what everyone will see in the Western Conference Finals this year.
