Darren Collison Has Not Lived Up To Expectation

One person that was supposed to become the main starting point guard for the Dallas Mavericks has not lived up to that expectation. Darren Collison is the person who was supposed to replace Jason Kidd.

However, that has not been the case. Collison has been very inconsistent which caused the Mavs to sign Derek Fisher a few weeks ago. Fisher replaced him in the starting line-up, which made Collison a sixth man.

Collison was benched late last month due to his inconsistency and since then he has been playing from the bench. There has been some games that he has played great as a sixth man, but he is still an inconsistent player.

He is averaging 11.1 points, 3.8 assists and 2.8 turnovers per game since coming off the bench. In my point of view, he is still unhappy that he is coming off as a sixth man instead of starting. That is why he is still playing bad.

Yes, there are games where he is great from the field, but turnovers have cost the team. He is second in turnovers on the team, right behind O.J. Mayo.

I still have faith that he could become one of the Mavs’ best point guards in their club history. However, the way he is playing right now, it sure does not look that way.

He should get the starting role against the Miami Heat tonight since Fisher is out due to injury. If Collison performs like an all-star tonight, then maybe coach Rick Carlisle will start him in upcoming games.

If Collison does not perform well tonight, then he may not be able to later on this season. Which means that this could be the only year that he will be in a Mavericks uniform.
