Vinny Del Negro has been in a good mood lately as coach of the Los Angeles Clippers, and for good reason.
Del Negro wasn’t impressed with his team’s intensity but he liked the way his team was able to dig out a win. They made it 10 straight wins including four at home.
“We could never get our rhythm,” Del Negro said. “We did a pretty good job defensively up high and they got some offensive rebounds at the end but we were able to convert when we needed to. Every time we made a run we just could not get away from them. We did not shoot it very well, especially from the three. We just could not convert some things to get away from them but we battled.”
What’s making the Clippers so impressive is what makes any NBA team impressive: winning with a lot of key players. Jamal Crawford is providing excellent offense along with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Lamar Odom, and Matt Barnes is playing excellent defense.
What is especially impressive about the Clippers is how they’re playing on the road.
“It is part of the process for us but I think the guys handled it, obviously, much better but tonight was a game early in the season we might have lost,” Del Negro said after the Pistons game. “We are learning how to win together when things are not going perfect and we have to find a way and tonight things definitely were not perfect but we found a way.”
