Would Sacramento Kings power forward Jason Thompson be a good addition to the current Boston Celtics roster? This is another possibility as the Celtics will continue to search for another big man and he would come much cheaper than trading for Anderson Varejao or Marcin Gortat, or at least one would think.
GM Danny Ainge has liked Thompson for a number of years and he is actually having a really nice season so far, averaging 11 points and 8 rebounds per game. He is a legitimate 6-11 and would become a member of the rotation right away. He rebounds well and that is obviously one area the Celtics really need help in.
What would be the cost for Thompson? As usual, the Kings are mired in another terrible season and surely would want to sell high on him in order to acquire a young asset. The math on this would probably be them asking for Avery Bradley, which would seem rather unlikely on the Celtics end. If the Celtics were going to trade Bradley, they could surely do better than Thompson. Thompson is a nice player and can provide good minutes, but he isn’t worth the price of Bradley. Bradley would be perfect for the Kings as a lockdown defender who can also help them space the floor. The Kings have been a poor defensive team for a while and having a guy of Bradley’s ability would do wonders.
The trading deadline is still over two months away but it is never too early to speculate on potential changes to improve the current Celtics roster.
