Amir Johnson showed off his team spirit by getting the Toronto Raptors logo shaved into the back of his head.
The 6-foot-9 forward showed up Friday sporting the new haircut with the design colored in red and featuring fairly good detail.
Coach Dwane Casey wasn’t too impressed with the attention grabbing design calling it a “look at me” move. He didn’t tell Johnson to get rid of the logo, instead saying that if he wants to have it on the back of his head he better be prepared to go out and show his team spirit by out hustling opponents to rebounds.
Although Johnson wasn’t the team’s leading rebounder, he did finish second while recording 10 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the 93-90 win over the Orlando Magic.
The decision for the haircut is somewhat of uncharacteristic one by the forward. It is a much better decision than getting suspended one game for throwing a mouth guard at an official. However, it is still unlike Johnson to go out of his way to draw attention to himself since he hasn’t done anything of the sort in his career with the Raptors.
Still, expressing himself through art and designs is something he is familiar with given the tattoos that cover his body. Plus, the design itself is well done and is one of the few logos in the NBA that’d actually have a chance of looking good on someone’s head. A big “P” from the Indiana Pacers logo wouldn’t be as cool, nor would the word “Nuggets” between the ears from the Denver Nuggets logo.
Unfortunately, the design will likely be gone the next time Johnson suits up for the Raptors but he did certainly give fans a new way to show their affection for the team.
After all, foam fingers only go so far.
