The Los Angeles Lakers made sure that their fans would enjoy a happy festive period with a victory over the New York Knicks.

The victory takes the teams winning streak to five games, the largest of the season as the Lakers go to .500 on the season.

In the two games that Steve Nash has been back in the starting roster improvements are already visible in what has not been a pleasing season so far.

The Staples Center witnessed a great night as Kobe Bryant engineered a second half come back finishing off the game with 34 points playing in his NBA record of 15 Christmas day games.

Metta World Peace had a big game for the Lakers, his aggressiveness at times too much for the Knicks to handle. Pau Gasol might not have been the most productive of scorers but his big time play as he dunked the winning points should be enough to encourage the ailing Spaniard.

Lakers fans have been have been looking up to the skies for answers to why this side has been failing to deliver this season, on a Christmas day a star-studded crowd was present for the biggest victory of the Lakers season so far.

Kobe who has now scored 30+ points in the last nine games helped his team go to .500 for the first time since November the 30th and are now 9-9 under Mike D’Antoni.

The Lakers are in action again tonight as they host the Denver Nuggets, a side who they eliminated in last season’s playoffs hope to get to the positive side of .500.

“It’s so early in the season to have turned a corner,” Bryant said. “We have everybody in the lineup and we’re starting to see how we want to play.”
