Pau Gasol diagnosed with foot injury

Chris Humphreys-US Presswire

Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol has been confirmed to have plantar fasciitis in his right foot, the team announced on Thursday.

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot that connects the heal bone to its foot arch. The injury was picked up by foot specialist Dr.Kenneth Jung during an MRI exam.

Despite the injury the Lakers coaches have said that the Spaniard is likely to play in Friday night’s game at the Staples Center against the Portland Trailblazers.

It is not the first time that Gasol has been injured this season; earlier this month he missed eight games with tendinitis in both knees.

It has not been a productive season so far as he is averaging a career-low 12.6 points per game, 8.7 rebounds in the 21 games he has played this season, which has been a struggle for everyone.

The defeat against Denver Nuggets was the first time that the Lakers suffered defeat in six games. Although the loss against the Nuggets wasn’t pretty and Dwight Howard was fouled out in the second half, Lakers fans need to realize that Rome was not built in a day.

Steve Nash has now been back for three games, two of which the team has won including the Christmas Day victory over the impressive New York Knicks.

There are clear signs that the team is finally clicking with Nash running the offense and Kobe Bryant continuing to do what he does best, scoring points. The Lakers host the Trailblazers tonight as they look to start yet another win streak as they look to progress up the Western Conference.
