Brandon Roy Should Retire After Latest Setback

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Brandon Roy has become a very sad tale in basketball circles. The man was arguably the second best shooting guard in basketball for a year or two, but his knees were always going to end up betraying him.   He was close to returning from a knee injury on Saturday but the Minnesota Timberwolves guard suffered another setback with his knees.  After this, he should retire from basketball.

I was rooting for this to work out for him.  In fact, there are a lot of basketball fans who wanted Roy to return.  Logically, it did not make a lot of sense but sports don’t necessarily follow logic all the time.  If his knees could hold up, we were hoping to see some of those great plays that made him a star.   Unfortunately, it just did not work out.

Even when Roy did play this year, he was a shell of his former self.  It was hard to watch and then he had to undergo another knee surgery.  Everyone was rooting for him but his body simply can’t handle the task of pro basketball.  It is a sad case but one that really could not be avoided.

I really hope that Roy retires now.  He will probably try to give this one last go, but there is a very small chance that it actually works.  Roy used to be one of the best in the game, but there is no point in destroying his knees anymore.

Walk away, Brandon.  No one will think less of you.

Kyrie Irving Crosses Tayshaun Prince

It's great to see Kyrie Irving back healthy and playing at an elite level once again. This evening against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Irving put veteran SF Tayshaun Prince on skates with this devastating crossover, and followed the amazing move by nailing the three like a boss. People have said some crazy things about the Cleveland Cavaliers since they were ransacked by the Golden State Warriors at home recently, but don't be surprised when they're looking like they have a shot to win a ring by the end of the season.
