The New Orleans Hornets received great news today when they found out that star guard Eric Gordon has been medically cleared to play in tonight’s game at the Charlotte Bobcats. This has to bring a huge smile to head coach Monty Williams face as the team has been rather anemic on the offensive end. The only guys they get consistent scoring contributions from are Greivis Vasquez, Anthony Davis, and Ryan Anderson. There is simply not enough scoring production from the entire roster.
If you remember, the Hornets acquired Gordon last year in the blockbuster trade that saw the team send Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers. It looked like a decent deal at the time for New Orleans as they were not going to resign Paul and they acquired a young up and coming player in Gordon in return. The problem since then has been Gordon’s injuries. He is always hurt and his future is starting to look murkier by the day. It is a shame because he is a wonderfully gifted offensive player who has tremendous potential as his career progresses. He needs to figure out a way to stay healthy, which is obviously easier said than done.
If Gordon can stay healthy, the Hornets become that much better. They desperately need a guy who can space the floor and provide some sort of potency on the offensive end. The Hornets do not have a guy besides Gordon who scares opponents on the offensive end. Brian Roberts and Austin Rivers certainly do not do the trick.
The Hornets are in the midst of an awful season and they are hoping things start to get better with the return of Gordon.
