The Boston Celtics got some awful news this week when they found out that starting point guard Rajon Rondo injured his quadriceps and his return time frame is undetermined. There is a chance he could return for tonight’s game when the team takes on the Sacramento Kings in Sacramento.
The Celtics got destroyed last night in Oakland against the Golden State Warriors without Rondo. Their offense was awful without their lead guard. There was very little movement on the offensive end and there were a lot of players simply standing around. Paul Pierce in particular was affected by Rondo’s absence as he shot just 4-20 for the floor. That is not a percentage the Celtics can afford to have from their best scorer and he picked a wrong time to have his worst game of the season. His poor shooting can be correlated to Rondo because the point guard usually puts him in the best positions to score. Pierce was particularly awful from three point range last night, another area where he could use Rondo. Rondo is great at finding open guys in transition, another area where Pierce gets a lot of his points.
The Celtics cannot afford to have Rondo miss a lot of games. Their offense is a shell of what it is when he is on the floor and they need him so that they can start winning some ball games. They are currently one game under .500 and they are starting to flirt with danger in terms of their overall record.
Rajon Rondo is an integral piece for the Celtics on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor and the team needs him back as soon as possible.
