The Boston Celtics have always had an interest in current Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans and it wouldn’t be shocking if the team made a play for him before the trading deadline. It has been reported that Celtics GM Danny Ainge has always had a liking for Evans ever since he was drafted a few years ago. The problem with Evans is that he has declined in every season since his rookie year. He put up historic numbers during his rookie campaign, averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, one of only a small handful of players to ever do that.
Since that historic season, his numbers have only gotten worse and his jump shot has not improved. If people think Rajon Rondo is a bad shooter, wait until they see Evans. He could build an apartment complex in Sacramento with all the bricks he puts up. However, he is still a really young and does have the potential to improve. The Celtics would certainly be taking a chance on Evans, especially since he has been injured for most of the season.
The only way the Celtics would trade for Evans is if he came really cheap. That would mean no Avery Bradley, Jared Sullinger, or Fab Melo. The team would probably trade Courtney Lee or Brandon Bass for him, but it would be tough to see the Kings pulling the trigger on that type of deal. Kings GM Geoff Petrie seems to have a weird fetish for Evans and would probably want the moon for his young guard.
The Celtics will certainly kick the tires on Evans but it is doubtful that a deal can be worked out between the two sides.
