Same Stuff in the New Year for Indiana Pacers

By J.M. Nicholas

The Indiana Pacers , who are 11-3 at home this season, begin the new year as they ended the old year, by winning at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers, who won at home on New Year’s Eve, began 2013 with a Wednesday night home win, as well. Indiana has now won 6 straight home games, although few of which have been in dominating fashion against playoff-bound teams.

The Pacers continue to struggle putting bad teams away. Indiana jumped out to a double-digit lead early the first quarter of Wednesday’s win against the dreadful Washington Wizards. The Pacers got out to a 17-point lead at one time, but in true Pacers fashion, they let Washington hang around and close the gap. The Wizards got the lead down to a single posession at one point late in the game, before coming up just short against the Pacers. Indiana held off the surge, but should have shut down their opponents much sooner in the game.

It’s just a matter of time before these bad teams are going to start turning these close losses into close wins against Indiana. The Pacers have held home court well all year, but have not seen very many good teams coming to their friendly confines yet this season. Hopefully these tightly-played win streaks will prove to be a learning tool for this young team, that if you let an opponent hang around too long without putting them away, they are going to eventually make you pay for it.
