Kevin Love Should Shut It Down For Season
The 2012-13 National Basketball Association season has been one to forget for Kevin Love. Love voiced his displeasure with Minnesota Timberwolves management over the direction of the team and then broke his right hand. Love missed three weeks and returned recently but has broken the hand yet again and will miss more time.
There is zero doubt that Love is one of the top players in the NBA and his loss will likely mean the end of any hope for a playoff appearance this season for Minnesota. This is an injury that is going to affect Love for the rest of the season and I wouldn’t be shocked if Love decides to take the rest of the season off if Minnesota falls deep out of playoff contention. Love has to decide if playing again this season is worth the risk of breaking the hand for a third time. I think it would be best for Love to just sit out the remaining part of this season and come back stronger than ever next year.
I know that sounds like a crazy idea for just a broken hand but Love likely misses another 4-6 weeks which pushes him back into late February. There will be about six weeks left in the season then and the risk seems too high in my opinion for a player of Love’s talents. Minnesota isn’t going to win a title this season anyway and Love still has another year on his contract. Why not rest up and get everyone else healthy as well and make a run at it next year? I know it won’t happen but probably should.
