Boston Celtics Make Statement In Win Over New York Knicks
The Boston Celtics made a statement win earlier this week when the team defeated Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks on the road without starting point guard Rajon Rondo. The great thing about the win is that Boston defeated an upper echelon team in the NBA and they did it without their best player.
The Knicks have been playing great ball this season and this was a win they really needed to have over the Celtics. Now losing one game in the regular season is obviously not going to ruin their season, but they needed this type of win to prove that there are the big guys in town. The Celtics have ruled this division for the past five years and the Knicks more often than not have finished near the bottom of the standings. This was the type of game where New York could have made a statement that the Atlantic Division is now theirs and the Celtics time has come and gone.
This game proved that the Celtics are not going to roll over or move aside for anyone. This has been their division for quite some time and winning in New York proved to people that they still think they can win this thing. They are quite a few games behind the Knicks in the standings, but as we have alluded to, their remaining January schedule is very winnable. If there was ever a time to make a move and catch the Knicks, it is now. Look, the Knicks are a good team and will definitely make the playoffs, but the only team out there that has proven that they can beat the Celtics are the Miami Heat.
The Celtics got a great win in New York this week and proved that the division still runs through Boston.
