NBA Rumors: Memphis Grizzlies Unlikely to Trade Rudy Gay?

(Jerome Miron/USA Today Sports)

One of the hottest NBA rumors lately has involved Rudy Gay and how the Memphis Grizzlies could trade their star forward by the trade deadline in February. However, it appears that may no longer be the case and Gay could remain with the team for the remainder of the 2012-13 season.

Gay’s name has been thrown around trade talks for a few weeks now, but it’s difficult to determine whether or not he would be worth trading before the deadline considering how well the Grizzlies have looked this season. At 24-12, there have been times where Memphis looks like one of the most talented teams in the league–so it would be pointless to trade a player like Gay unless they received an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Then again, it’s no surprise Memphis is considering a trade involving Gay when taking a closer look at his statistics from this season. Both numbers are down from a points and rebounds standpoint–so it’s no surprise to see the team keeping their options open on the market.

If the Grizzlies have gone a few weeks without finding a fair offer for Gay, there’s a good chance he most likely won’t find a new team before the deadline and will end up on the team for the remainder of the season. With the fourth best record in the Western Conference, let’s hope Gay can continue to be the leading scorer for Memphis and avoid a first-round exit in the playoffs like last season.
