The Minnesota Timberwolves just can’t seem to get a break this season. Only a few weeks after losing Kevin Love to injury and a few days after Ricky Rubio returned to the lineup the Wolves were faced with yet another injury. This time is was Nikola Pekovic their leading scorer and rebounder who went down with bruised right quadriceps.

This injury comes on top of injuries sustained to Brandon Roy, Malcolm Lee and Love. Luckily for the Wolves though, Pekovic is supposed to only miss 7-to-10 days. And news broke this week that backup shooting guard Alexey Shved may also be out of action with a sprained ankle.

Pekovic injured himself on Thursday when he collided with Blake Griffin in their contest against the Los Angeles Clippers as did Shved.

Minnesota had high hopes entering this season that were determined on Rubio’s presence and it seemed right when he got back the pieces started to fall apart for them. Now, the Wolves are sitting in 10th place in the Western Conference and doing whatever they can to continue to compete every night.

Love is rumored to be returning in 8-to-10 weeks after having successful surgery to his hand while the return table for Roy and Lee is undetermined.

Expect Greg Stiemsma to fill in for Pekovic at center while he recovers. As for the shooting guard spot,  Minnesota has depleted the rotation now that all three of the guards are injured so expect either Luke Ridnour or JJ Barea to rotate over to fill in for the injured Shved.
