Can the Celtics Trade Brandon Bass?

The Boston Celtics have been mired in mediocrity for most of the season and one player who has had an awful season is Brandon Bass.  He is averaging eight points and five rebounds per game this season, much lower than his numbers from last season.  He signed a lucrative contract (by his standards) last off season,and has clearly not produced up to the team’s standards.  Rookie Jared Sullinger has clearly passed him on the minutes chart, even though he is coming off the bench.  Jeff Green is also more valuable to the team in a super sub-type role, playing multiple positions off the bench.

The problem right now is that the team cannot trade Bass for two reasons.  The first being that he is vastly overpaid,and the second being that his value is about as low as it could possibly be.  In comparison, if they had traded him last season, when he was playing better and had a friendlier contract, they obviously could have gotten much more for him.  But the Celtics were not going to trade him because they acquired him earlier in the season, and would probably have no success in finding someone to take his contract this season.  He is making too much money for such little production.

The Celtics have no choice but to keep Bass and hope he snaps out of this season long funk.  His minutes will decline so it might be even tougher for him to start playing better, but the team has no choice.  At this point he offers depth in the front court, and nothing more.
