There’s been plenty of NBA rumors over the last couple of weeks when it comes to the Memphis Grizzlies trading Rudy Gay–mainly because they needed to clear some salary space since they were already over the luxury tax. With the recent trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers in which they sent Marreese Speights, Wayne Ellington, and Josh Selby packing, it’s difficult not to wonder if Gay will stick around after all.
One of the only reasons why Gay’s name was being shopped around to begin with was due to the luxury tax and now that they managed to clear up some space–the forward could end up sticking around in Memphis after all. Obviously, this would be great news for a team like the Grizzlies as they look to continue being one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
At the beginning of the season, the argument can be made that Memphis was one of the hottest teams in the league and even though they cooled down a bit–there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be considered one of the best anyway. The Grizzlies have made a huge statement over the last couple of years when it comes to being one of the top teams in the league and by keeping Gay around for at least the rest of the season–there’s no reason why that shouldn’t be considered the case once again.
Who knows–maybe this is finally the year Memphis makes a run in the playoffs as one of the top teams in the Western Conference.
