NBA Rumors: Should the Dallas Mavericks Trade For Dwight Howard?

(Tom Szczerbowski/USA Today Sports)

As the Los Angeles Lakers continue to struggle, NBA rumors are beginning to heat up even more over Dwight Howard possibly being traded before February’s deadline as the big man continues to struggle fitting in with his new team. One team that may be showing interest once the deadline rolls around–Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks.

One of the main reasons why Howard to the Mavericks has become a popular rumor this week is simple–the center expressed interest in the team last summer before he was traded to the Lakers. With Dirk Nowitzki back in the lineup, Dallas is finally beginning to turn their season around and Howard could be the perfect addition to help this team get back into the playoff hunt.

Still, it’s difficult not to wonder whether Howard joining the Mavericks would pay off considering how much he’s struggled to fit in with Los Angeles. If Howard struggles playing with a strong lineup consisting of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, and Metta World Peace, how on earth would he put up big numbers with a team like Dallas?

There’s still plenty of time before Cuban and the Mavericks would have to decide on whether it’s worth the risk trying to go for Howard, but keep in mind the Lakers will most likely want to keep him around until the end of the season. Howard hasn’t even played one full season with the team and could just be going through a bit of a funk–so it should be interesting to see how this scenario plays out over the next few weeks.
