After watching the Chicago Bulls last night beat the Los Angeles Lakers without their two best players it was interesting to see that the Bulls aren’t that far away from a finals appearance. The Bulls play hard and compete on defense every night but they lack players that can consistently score and create their own shot. A player that could benefit them would be Marcus Thornton from the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings are over the cap and have a lot of bad contracts on the books. For a team that is going to be under new ownership they should be interested in cutting some of those bad contracts out and rebuild from the previous regime. The Kings are in a situation where they need to completely rebuild and get on the right track before they head to Seattle next year.
The Bulls should pursue Thornton because he provides instant offense and he is also a willing defender. The Bulls need someone that can hit open three point shots in the playoffs and can also create off the dribble when the play breaks down.
Also a key part in this is that the Bulls have a $5 million trade exception that they can use in a trade to make up the majority of Thornton’s salary.
There are no guarantees when it comes to sports but the Bulls have been knocking on the door for a few years now and have a chance to make a move to steal the Eastern Conference. There are a lot of unknowns with this team but if they were to add a shooting guard like Thornton it would take less pressure off a Derrick Rose return and make the Bulls that much dangerous come May and even June.
