The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly finally ready to entertain trade packages for Dwight Howard.
Although Howard obviously isn’t causing the Lakers losses, there are rumors that he and Kobe Bryant have had issues. There have been a number of rumors that support reports that Bryant is driving Howard out of L.A. According to Basketball GM, the Brooklyn Nets are ready to re-enter trade talks after backing down last summer and signing Brook Lopez instead of pursuing Howard.
Nets general manger Billy King has began to formulate an action plan to bring Howard to Brooklyn.
King was planning to contact the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to gauge their interest in a three-team trade that would send Kevin Love to the Lakers, Brook Lopez to the Timberwolves and Dwight Howard to the Nets. Other small pieces would need to be included, but the proposed trade was thought to be intriguing enough to start conversations in the Lakers front office that would force them to deal with Howard earlier than planned.
Although Love did sign a lucrative contract with the Timberwolves, he has always publicly told reporters that he is unhappy with the Timberwolves organization in order to put pressure on management to provide him with better teammates.
The Lakers have no issues with fact that Love will still be out for eight to 10 more weeks with a broken hand. However, even though Love is injured, it is very unlikely that the Timberwolves will be willing to accept Lopez for Love–unless Love requests it.
King will have to put together a very appealing package to get the Timberwolves to consider the trade.
