The Golden State Warriors are NBA title contenders right now. If you don’t believe that and your team is in the playoffs, don’t be shocked if the Warriors send your squad home this postseason. Even with Andrew Bogut out, the Warriors are thriving behind All-Star snub Stephen Curry and a pair of solid forwards in Harrison Barnes and David Lee. In addition, Golden State hit the jackpot with new head coach Mark Jackson, who is proving that being a former player has its advantages when moving to the sidelines in a suit and tie.
The other crazy part about the Warriors is their youth. The are becoming the next Oklahoma City Thunder will all the talented young players on their roster. This doesn’t mean these youngsters will fold under the pressure of the playoffs, either. It’s definitely a different game, but Barnes and Curry know what it’s like to be in the spotlight from their days at North Carolina and Davidson in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. When the attention is on them, they rise to the occasion and while no one is watching, they’re preparing to do just that in the postseason.
The Los Angeles Lakers are awful and the Los Angeles Clippers are awesome, but the Warriors are hanging right there in that second place spot of the Pacific Division and plan on giving the Clippers a run for their money in the division title race. Of course, the only thing that matters is their standing in the Western Conference, where they would be the fourth seed if the playoffs started today. Give a team like this home court advantage and some confidence in the first round and they’ll knock off a giant in the second and then all bets are off. Take my advice: don’t sleep on the Warriors come playoff time.
