Kendrick Perkins Has To Improve His Game If the Oklahoma City Thunder Want to Win a Title

Kendrick Perkins was brought over via trade with the Boston Celtics, and I’m sure the Oklahoma City Thunder thought he could have been the missing piece on the inside. So far in 2013, Perkins has been quite mediocre on what he was supposed to solidify: rebounding. Perkins is averaging under six rebounds and four points per game this year—clearly not what the Thunder traded for.

I understand the Thunder have scorers on this team already, but there’s no excuse for the big man to be getting under six boards a game. He’s a big body presence and frankly, right now, I’m going to come out and say something that might not be very popular. Kendrick Perkins does NOT want to be a part of the Thunder. Why? I don’t know. I feel like there’s a clear lack of effort on his part, and I don’t understand it. The Thunder have one of the most talented rosters in the league and if Perkins dedicated himself, they’d be sick on the inside.

I think Kevin Durant is going to have to step up and be a leader. Sit Perkins down and see what’s up. There’s no excuse for this.

The Thunder are going to need Perkins in the postseason to be the post presence he can be, defend and rebound. There’s enough pressure on Durant and Russell Westbrook already. Throw in the questionable trade of James Harden, and you could have a recipe for disaster if Perkins doesn’t pick up his game. I hope this kid grows up soon before he finds himself out of a job—and the Thunder out of the championship chase.
