New Orleans Pelicans Pave Way for Return of Charlotte Hornets; NBA Wins

Most of the initial reactions I heard to the name New Orleans Pelicans were not good. You just don’t think professional sports franchise when you hear the word Pelicans. However, after letting the official announcement set in for a couple days, I’m now okay with the Nola Pelicans.

As it turns out, Pelicans are actually kind of awesome, and it’s something that makes sense for the state of Louisiana (given that fact it’s their state bird). Plus, I got to thinking, this all but guarantees the return of another team, the Charlotte Hornets.

Bobcats’ owner Michael Jordan is reportedly open to changing the team back into the Hornets if the name ever becomes available. Well, problem solved.

So I imagine it’s only a matter of time before we hear that Charlotte will indeed be home to the Hornets once again. Clearly, MJ’s first order of business should be to retire the jerseys of Hornet greats – Larry Johnson, Alonzo Mourning, and Muggsy Bogues. It’s just the right thing to do.

I can’t wait for all the sweet Hornets merch from my childhood to return.

This has been a big week for the NBA. Not only are the Charlotte Hornets on their way back, but the Seattle SuperSonics should be returning soon as well. I can’t believe the league has been without these two popular teams for so many years now, but it looks like things are finally being righted.

Also, credit has to be given to the designers of the Pelicans logo – that bird looks pretty pissed off.
