Good Defense is Not Enough for Indiana Pacers

When it comes to pro sports, the classic statement is that defense will win championships. It has been proven that defense can (and will) win championships, when put in the proper positions, while being helped by a decent offense. Any team can keep a score low with dominant defense, but no team can win a game without scoring more points than their opposition.

The Indiana Pacers have spent much of this season at the top of the league in defense. The Pacers have had the best average scoring defense against them all year long. As good as their defense might be, it matters not, if they can’t find a way to score against opposing teams.

The Pacers lead the league, with around 90 points in scoring defense against them this year. Their defense has served well for the team so far this season, but can it hold up for the rest of the season, and into the playoffs? This team has now given up 100 points twice in a row for the first time this season, and has now lost back-to-back games for the first time since early December. Until Saturday’s loss, the Pacers had held the longest streak in the league, without giving up two games in a row.

The Indiana Pacers have the potential to take a top spot in the division and conference. Based on talent, the sky is the limit for this team. The question is, do they hold tight to their current roster, or do they push the panic button and blow up the franchise?
