Despite their disappointing 19-26 record, the Dallas Mavericks are hanging around the playoff hunt in the Western Conference and seem to be bouncing back now that Dirk Nowitzki is back in the lineup. Unfortunately, it appears the Mavericks may have to spend the next few days without Chris Kaman.
The center was forced to miss Tuesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers after suffering a concussion during practice on Monday and at this point–there’s no telling when he could be back in the lineup. While the Mavericks and Kaman should consider themselves lucky since the injury could be far worse, this is the last thing the team needs to be dealing with at this point in the season.
Dallas was off to a slow start at the beginning of the season and could use just about every win possible from here on out with All-Star Weekend right around the corner. The Mavericks need all of the help they can get from their key players over the next couple of weeks and while Kaman may not have the same type of impact as a player like Nowitzki, the team could have used him in the lineup on Tuesday.
Hopefully, Kaman’s concussion is only minor and he can return to the lineup as quickly as possible. He may only be averaging 12.4 points to go along with 6.2 rebounds, but for a player only averaging less than 24 minutes per game–these numbers aren’t too shabby for a player like Kaman.
