There’s been plenty of NBA rumors swirling over the last couple of weeks involving which players could be dealt before next month’s trade deadline and while they may be playoff contenders at the moment, it appears the Atlanta Hawks could be one of the teams involved in a big deal. The player they’re considering trading–forward Josh Smith.
The former first-round pick is currently in his ninth season with the team and even though he believes he’s worthy of a massive contract, the chances of the Hawks following through and giving him one seem slim at this point–so a trade may be in the best interest for both sides. It’s no secret Smith’s attitude has been seen as a problem from time to time to the team and it should be no surprise they’re considering a trade at this point in the regular season.
When looking over his career, there’s no question Smith could have an impact if he did end up with a new team, but his numbers don’t stand out compared to some of the league’s other top players. The fact that Smith has never averaged more than 19 points per game in a single season shows where he stands with some of the other players in the league.
Any team would be lucky enough to land a player like Smith, but depending on what they would have to give up to acquire him from the Hawks makes this move a risky one–so it should be interesting to see how this plays out before next month’s deadline.
