Rumors have floated around today about a possible trade between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers centered on Celtics forward Kevin Garnett. The proposed deal the Clippers are looking to do would see them sending point guard Eric Bledsoe and forward Caron Butler to Boston for Garnett. Recently we wrote about the Clippers as a possible trade target for forward Paul Pierce, but the Garnett rumors are brand new. It would seem to be a logical landing spot for Garnett as the Clippers are competing for a championship and he has an off-season home in Malibu. It would certainly appear to be a location where he would waive his no trade clause.
Last week we wrote about Bledsoe possibly making his way into a Pierce deal and it would still seem like a good fit. The Celtics desperately need to accumulate as much young talent as possible, even if he plays the same position as star point guard Rajon Rondo, who is out for the remainder of this season. It would do the Celtics no good to hold on to Garnett as they appear to have no shot at winning a championship this season. They would be much better off acquiring Bledsoe and having him around next season instead of KG. Another option for the Celtics would be to trade Bledsoe again during the summer if he has a good season with the Celtics and his value is high. They could also look to trade Rondo if Bledsoe were to work out and see if they could get some nice young players for him, which is obviously possible.
The Celtics are at a crossroads and it will be a very interesting couple of weeks leading up to the trading deadline.
