Philadelphia 76ers center Spencer Hawes had an impressive performance against the Orlando Magic that lead to a double-double and a third straight win for the Sixers. They won 78-61 over the Magic and now improve to 21-26. Their recent three game win streak has helped to put them only three games out of current eighth seed Boston Celtics.
Hawes has continued to show coach Doug Collins that he made the right choice by putting him in the starting lineup. After starting on the bench for the first 42 games, Hawes has been impressive in the starting lineup for the last five games. This game was no different.
He collected 14 rebounds, 13 defensive and one offensive rebound, scored 21 points, and added three assists and one block as well. His 21 points and 14 rebounds were both good enough for most on both teams.
With the emergence of Hawes in the starting five, the Sixers seem to have sparked new life. Before this three game win streak Philadelphia was playing mediocre and some very poor basketball, but Hawes has been able to help his team find some success on the court.
His performance against the Magic was way above his season averages, but that is in part due to his bench role for a majority of the season. Before this game, Hawes was averaging 9.8 PPG and 6.0 RPG as well as only averaging 24.3 minutes per game. Against the Magic, Hawes played for 37 minutes.
If Spencer Hawes can keep up his impressive performances, look for the Sixers win streak to be extended. Philadelphia next plays against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.
