The Minnesota Timberwolves are in a very interesting position with 37 games left in the regular season. Minnesota sits at 18-27 on the season, and only six and a half games out of the final playoff spot. With the possibility that Kevin Love returns later this season, I believe that it would be wise for Minnesota to try to make a trade to go after that final spot. This becomes a big decision for David Kahn, especially with the possibility that Love may want out of town in the next few years.
The team has a solid base with Love, Andrei Kirilenko and Ricky Rubio, and if the team can make a trade to get a shooting guard to add to the starting lineup, the Timberwolves could make a run at the last playoff spot. It does seem like a real long shot, obviously, with a team that is nine games under .500, but with Love being out since early January and not being expected back until late March, the team needs to do something.
Minnesota has had no success making the playoffs ever since Kevin Garnett left town, and the fans deserve better than to sit through year after year of the team getting nowhere close to the playoffs. Kahn has to make a bold move here and now to show the paying public that the team is serious about winning. If Love can return before the end of March and with a solid trade made, Minnesota may actually be able to run down the other teams in the Western Conference.
