Eric Gordon is blossoming into a potential superstar with the New Orleans Hornets, but with the team in last place right now in the Western Conference, it may be wise for New Orleans to think about the idea of trading Gordon away. There is always the chance that Gordon blends with Anthony Davis and Austin Rivers more in coming years but even with three young superstars, you can’t be sitting in last place. The Hornets are in the bottom half of the NBA in every major statistic right now, and change is needed.
New Orleans will be changing their name to the Pelicans next season and with that has to come some changes with the roster. With the way the team is going right now, it is possible that they end up with one of the top picks in the NBA draft yet again. New Orleans has the fifth-worst record going into Wednesday’s play with a 15-33 record, and it doesn’t look like they are improving any this season at least.
If the team can find a trade partner for Gordon, it should be something that must be considered just to add another high draft pick or something because the roster right now isn’t working as presently constructed. Gordon is just 24-years old, and will garner a lot of interest throughout the NBA, so why not try to gain another first-round pick if you are going to be bad anyway? The Hornets can build around Davis and Rivers and whoever they pick this summer and go from there, because change is necessary in the Big Easy.
