Memphis Grizzlies Would be Foolish to Trade Zach Randolph

The Memphis Grizzlies were once considered a Western Conference contender, but are fading fast in the conference title race. It’s natural for a team to go through an adjustment period when it trades it’s top player and that’s exactly what’s going on in Memphis right now. The Grizzlies can get back on track if their front office will leave well enough alone, but that probably won’t happen. The latest NBA rumors suggest Memphis is also shopping its current scoring leader, Zach Randolph, which is a horrible idea if true.

Again, it’s just a rumor, but what are the member of the Grizzlies’ brass thinking? Yes, they finally mustered the courage to move Rudy Gay, but that doesn’t mean they should get trigger happy and ship Randolph out of town, too. It’s one thing to fix a problem that involves two scorers who need to ball, but it’s another to get rid of them both. That simply makes no sense.

Memphis 5-5 in its last 10 games, but the Grizzlies will get back to their winning ways after they’ve had time to build chemistry with their new pieces. That especially applies to Tayshaun Prince, who will provide scoring without the ball, which is exactly what Memphis has been lacking over the past few years with Gay and Randolph fighting over the ball.

It finally appears like the Grizzlies have all the right pieces in place for a serious title run, but you can kiss that goodbye if Randolph is traded. Memphis should hope these latest rumors aren’t true.
