2012-13 NBA Three-Point Contest Predictions

The annual NBA All-Star Weekend Three-Point Shootout is an event that is usually overshadowed by the Slam Dunk Contest, but in 2012-13 that could change.

The Dunk Contest is shaping up to be the best in a long time, but so is the 3-pt Shootout. The Eastern Conference is sending Steve Novak, Kyrie Irving, and Paul George, and the West will be represented by Stephen Curry, Matt Bonner, and Ryan Anderson.

The only notable snub is Kyle Korver, who is currently leading the NBA in 3PT% with 46.4% from downtown. However, other than that, this is one of the most star-studded contests that I can remember. Irving and Curry are both on their way to NBA superstardom, and Novak and Bonner are the folk heroes that everyone loves to root for.

The squads were chosen by Dwyane Wade, who picked for the East, and Chris Paul, who selected for the West.

Novak has the best % of the Eastern Conference participants at 44.7%, and is my pick to win for Wade’s squad because of his quick release and level of comfort shooting threes, as they are his only real looks in games.

Bonner is my pick to win for the West, although Curry has a better % than him. The reason I choose Bonner is because although he has easily the most awkward (yet successful) jump-shot in the league, it is quick. Plus, Bonner’s fans pretty much got him into the contest by using the hashtag “#LetBonnerShoot” on twitter.

In the end, though, I have to go with Novak to win it all. Hey, what can I say? I’m a New York Knicks fan!
