What happens when your two centers are 1-of-13?
Well, chances are you lose, and you lose big.
Bismack Biyombo did grab 16 rebounds for Charlotte, but combined with Brendan Haywood for 12 missed shots among Bobcat centers. Haywood was 0 of 6, and Biyombo 1 of 7 in 36 minutes of play. He had eight of his rebounds on offense and eight on defense, but scoring only five points didn’t help matters.
It’s why the Bobcats are a dismal 12-40.
It’s no secret that Biyombo is a defender not a scorer. It has basically always been that way. His lack of scoring hurts the team’s offense, but only if the backup can come in and pick up the slack. Well, the backup is Haywood, and so much for that strategy.
Biyomo is averaging 4.4 points and 7.0 rebounds a game. His shooting percentage of 45 percent isn’t bad for a player, but is poor for an inside post guy. In a recent game with the Los Angeles Lakers, Biyombo played 33 minutes, and took only five shots and made four of them. He wound up with four points and eight rebounds.
Suffice to say, Biyombo needs to take more shots and see what happens. It’s not going to hurt the Bobcats, who are suffering from lack of point production from other players. Biyombo doesn’t have to follow suit, and should not stop shooting.
