Ever since Rajon Rondo was ruled out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL, there’s been plenty of talk about whether or not the Boston Celtics have what it takes to still make a run at the NBA Finals. However, despite the absence of their star guard, the Celtics have looked impressive over the last week and there’s one player who could make a huge impact during their playoff run–Jeff Green.
With Kevin Garnett taking the night off, Green took advantage of earning the star on Friday against the Phoenix Suns by scoring 31 points on 11 of 14 shooting from the field. Along with his impressive scoring, Green recorded seven rebounds as well to go along with four assists and five blocks–which could earn him additional playing time for the remainder of the season. Even if he recorded these numbers against a team like the Suns, the Celtics have to be pleased to know they can rely on Green if needed and that he was worth the wait after missing all of last season due to having heart surgery.
At the moment, Boston currently holds the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Conference standings and like they’ve proven before–they’re capable of getting hot at the right moment once the playoffs get under way. Between Rondo being out and veteran players like Garnett and Paul Pierce showing signs of old age at times, the Celtics will need all of the help they can get from the rest of their players–which is why Green could be big for Boston down the stretch.
