Eric Gordon's Play Not Good Enough For New Orleans Hornets

Eric Gordon has been making some big plays in recent NBA games for the New Orleans Hornets.

But it would appear he hasn’t been making enough of them.

Gordon scored 23 points on Friday in a 104-100 loss for the New Orleans Hornets to the Dallas Mavericks.

But Gordon was 7-of-19 so it wasn’t exactly a perfect night. But late in the game, with a chance to help his team take the lead, Gordon turned the ball over and Dallas was able to preserve the win.

It’s kind of a scenario on how the season’s gone for the Hornets.

Gordon scored 20 points in the first half and was limited to only three in the second half with 1-of-9 shooting from the floor.

He had the effort to keep the team in the game but Gordon was unable to deliver the goods.

That’s been the story of the Hornets’ season.

It’s not that Gordon hasn’t been getting the job done most of the time. Just the opposite.

Gordon is averaging 17 points and 2.7 assists per game. His points, rebounding and assists totals are all down from last year, albeit they’re all down slightly.

Hornets coach Monty Williams lamented afterward about having the lead late in the game and having the ball in the hands of the offense….yet the Hornets couldn’t capitalize.

It basically comes down to a playoff team looking for some leadership…the type of leadership the Hornets are lacking right now. Gordon, in particular, needs to find better ways of getting the win when he has the ball down the stretch.
