The Minnesota Timberwolves received good news on Sunday, despite a close-loss to the Golden State Warriors that worsened their record to an unremarkable 20-33. Superstar Kevin Love released a statement that said he hopes to return to the floor for Minnesota in the next 10-15 games.
Love’s return will be a tremendous help to the Timberwolves as he has been their team-leader in points and rebounds per game over the past few seasons. He’s also arguably the best three-point shooter on the team, something the Wolves desperately need as they rank last in the NBA in three-point percentage at just over 30 percent.
With their superstar returning for the last 15-20 games of the season, Minnesota will definitely have a solid chance at finishing their season off on a positive note. The importance of finishing on a high-note cannot be understated.
Both Andrei Kirilenko and Nikola Pekovic will have the opportunity to leave Minnesota in free agency this summer. Along with that, Love himself has also been rumored to be unsure if he wants to stay in Minnesota through the end of his contract or after he becomes a free agent.
Given that, the Wolves will need to put a positive taste in their stars’ mouths so that they are more inclined to stay with the franchise. If not, they could be facing a future that doesn’t include three of the most talented and skilled players on their roster.
Love’s return is huge for Minnesota for the end of the season and for its future. Not only will the Wolves be able to finish the season strongly, but they will also hopefully be able to keep their core group of talented players together beyond this season.
