With the end of the regular season quickly approaching, the Oklahoma City Thunder are ready to make another run at their second-straight NBA Finals appearance after losing in five games to the Miami Heat last season. At the moment, the Thunder trail the San Antonio Spurs by three games for the top seed in the Western Conference, but they hope bringing back a key veteran will give them an advantage down the stretch.
Oklahoma City announced their plans to re-sign Fisher on Monday considering the team could use a little bit of help at the guard after trading Eric Maynor before last week’s deadline. Fisher was released by the Dallas Mavericks back in December and he’s proven to be a valuable leader throughout his career despite the fact that his numbers aren’t even close to where they used to be–which is why this was a great move by the Thunder.
For a guard as experienced as Fisher, these are the types of players teams want to have on their roster down the stretch and in the playoffs as he already has five championships under his belt from his stints with the Los Angeles Lakers. Oklahoma City was already considered a strong favorite in the Western Conference to begin with, but the addition of Fisher could make them even better.
Plus, the Thunder already have a huge advantage compared to other teams when it comes to having Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook–so the playoffs should be exciting to watch once again for the defending Western Conference champions.
